Day Nursery

During term time, our day nursery runs with the option of attending for a full day, morning session, or afternoon session. The morning and afternoon sessions can include lunch if required.

No child will be permitted entry before their session time begins as we have a legal requirement to maintain our ratios to ensure the safety of all children who attend Houghton Nursery Group.

The children are picked up from our main door by an approved and authorised person - please note it is our policy that we will not allow a child to leave with anyone other than those we have been informed will be picking them up. If someone unexpected arrives, we would contact the child's parent or carer to gain authorisation to allow the child to leave with the unexpected person.

The session times are:

8:45am - 3:15pm Full Day

8:45am - 11:45am Morning

11:45am - 12:45pm Lunch

12:45pm - 3:15pm Afternoon

Lunch:

Children having their lunch here at nursery need to come with a packed lunch.

The lunchbox can include food that either needs to be cooked, such as a ready meal or tinned food (e.g., beans), or a vegetarian homemade dish that needs to be reheated. Please note there are guidelines that restrict what food we can reheat due to the risk of food poisoning.

We cannot reheat any homemade food or previously cooked ready meals/tinned food that contains any kind of meat, rice, or kidney beans.

The EYFS provides statutory guidelines that we must follow in relation to safe eating. The guidelines state that certain foods should not be given to any child under 5 years old, therefore if any of the below foods are in a child's lunchbox the child will not be able to eat that food item, and they will be removed from their lunchbox and sent home:

Popcorn

Chewing Gum

Marshmallows

Boiled/Hard Sweets

Ice Cubes

We are a NUT FREE setting, therefore if anything within a child's lunchbox contains nuts, the child will not be able to eat that food item, and it will be removed from their lunchbox and sent home. Please note this does include pesto and chocolate spreads that contain hazelnuts.
