About Us
Houghton Nursery Group is an Ofsted registered charity that was established in 1966 beginning as a small morning only nursery based in Houghton Village Hall within Houghton village.
In 2005, we received lottery funding for a brand-new purpose-built building within the grounds of Houghton C of E School which then opened in July 2006. The building has a large open plan room made up of different areas, including home corner, quiet area, and messy area. We also have outdoor space around the whole building that provides the children with a variety of resources and equipment to use to develop their skills and knowledge, including climbing frames, bikes and trikes, a mud kitchen, a sand tray, a wild garden, and much more!
We are open Monday to Friday (8am to 6pm) for 50 weeks of the year (excluding bank holidays). We provide childcare for children aged 2.5 to 11 years old through our Nursery sessions, Breakfast and After School Clubs for Houghton C of E School, and Holiday Club.
Our Aims
Here at Houghton Nursery Group, we aim to:
- Create a safe, happy, and stimulating environment for all of our children to help them to develop and have the best start to their education;
- Provide an early years education following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for all our nursery aged children;
- Provide high quality wrap-around childcare for children aged 2.5 to 11 years old;
- Work in partnership with our parents and carers to support and help the children to learn and develop;
- Contribute to the life and well-being within our local community;
- Promote equality, values, and diversity;
- Be inclusive to all ensuring every child's individual needs are met.
Our Mission Statement
We encourage the children that attend our setting to respect the fundamental British values of democracy; the rule of the law; individual liberty and mutual respect; and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. We ensure that partisan political views or issues are not promoted in the teaching of our children.
